On or about Saturday, October 9th, 2021, around 12:15 in the morning, an accident between a panel van and a pedestrian left a 39-year-old man dead. Troopers from the MSP said the accident was reported along Interstate 495 in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Maryland State Police said 39-year-old Jamarr Rahman Shareef was killed when he was allegedly struck by a Nissan NV panel van as he was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross I-495. Paramedics pronounced Shareef dead of his injuries when they arrived at the scene. Police did not mention any other vehicles or injuries in their initial report on the accident.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 495 runs north and south through Greenbelt, which is situated on the northeast side of the Washington D.C. area.

Officials are still investigating.
