On or about Wednesday, June 16th, 2021, around 1:00 in the afternoon, an accident between an SUV and a tractor-trailer claimed the lives of a man and woman. Troopers from the State Police said the accident was reported along Highway 79 just outside Oxford, Alabama.

Officials said 70-year-old James Turner and 61-year-old Bonnie Turner were injured when the SUV they were in and a tractor-trailer collided under unknown circumstances. James and Bonnie Turner were pronounced dead of their injuries a short time after the accident, but police did not say if they died at the scene or after being taken to a nearby hospital by paramedics.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance outside Oxford, which is about 61 miles west of downtown Birmingham.

Police expect to release more information as soon as it becomes available.
