On or about Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 around 6:25 in the evening, an accident between a pedestrian and a passenger vehicle left a 68-year-old man dead. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along State Highway 21 just outside Chireno in Nacogdoches County, Texas.

Officials said 68-year-old James Curtis Henry was killed when he was allegedly struck by a passing vehicle as he was tending to the scene of a disabled vehicle. Henry was pronounced dead of his injuries a short time after the accident. Authorities identified the driver of the car as 20-year-old Jessie Jacobs, who was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about one mile west of Chireno, which is roughly 184 miles southeast of downtown Dallas.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.
