On or about Sunday, January 23rd, 2022, around 12:45 in the morning, a serious single-vehicle car accident left one individual dead. Officials from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Farm-to-Market 1844 just outside Gladewater in Upshur County, Texas.

Officials from the area said 42-year-old James Engeman was killed when the pickup truck he was driving allegedly veered off the side of Farm-to-Market Road 1844 when it slammed into a number of trees in a wooded patch a short distance off the pavement. Paramedics pronounced Engeman dead of his injuries a short time after the accident.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from Gladewater, which is about 115 miles southeast of downtown Dallas.

Officials are still looking into the accident.
