On or about Sunday, October 3rd, 2021, around 6:30 in the morning, an accident between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 19-year-old Kilgore, Texas man. Officials from the NMSP said the accident was reported along the southbound side of County Road 798 just outside Carlsbad in Eddy County, New Mexico.
Authorities said 19-year-old Jamie Barbosa was killed when his pickup truck allegedly struck a tractor-trailer that was either stopped or parked on the shoulder of County Road 798. Paramedics rushed Barbosa to Carlsbad Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after his arrival. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured in the accident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is a short distance from the Carlsbad city limits in Eddy County, which is about 277 miles southeast of Albuquerque.
Police are still investigating.
