Details:
On or about Thursday, January 21st, 2021, around 7:30 in the morning, an accident between a school district van and a tractor-trailer left one woman dead and sent three people to the hospital. Officials from the area said the accident happened at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 59 in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Department said a South Page School District van was on Highway 2 and allegedly failed to yield at the intersection with Highway 59. A tractor-trailer that was northbound subsequently struck the van. A passenger in the van, identified as 47-year-old Jeanette Carson was taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police identified the driver of the van as 70-year-old Chester Johnson, and the driver of the tractor-trailer as 31-year-old Spencer Lauman, who were both taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries. A 12-year-old passenger in the van was also injured.
Investigators from multiple agencies responded to the scene of the accident.
