Details:
On or about Thursday, October 21st, 2021, around 3:24 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car claimed the life of a 76-year-old Austin, Texas woman. Troopers from the VSP said the accident was reported along the northbound side of Interstate 81 in Washington County, Virginia.
Officials from the Virginia State Police said 76-year-old Jeffie N. Barbee was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly rolled from the shoulder and into the northbound lanes of I-81 where it struck Barbee’s car. Police identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as Dale Allen, who is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel in the moments before the accident. Barbee was pronounced dead of her injuries a short time after the crash. Allen was unhurt in the accident.
Authorities have since charged Allen with reckless driving in connection with the accident.
Police are still investigating the incident.
