Details:
On or about Monday, February 1st, 2021, around 10:05 in the morning, an accident between an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck left a 33-year-old man dead. Representatives from the ISP said the accident was reported at the intersection of C-33 and Highway 218 just outside Plainfield, Iowa.
Troopers from the Iowa State Police said 33-year-old Jenrry Madrid Sorto was killed when his pickup truck was allegedly hit by a tractor-trailer that ran the stop sign. Sorto was traveling northbound on Highway 218, while the tractor-trailer was eastbound on C-33 at the time of the accident. Sorto was pronounced dead of his injuries after the accident.
Authorities identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 22-year-old Trevor Byram, who did not report injuries after the accident.
Highway 218 is four lanes in the area, with a wide, grassy median dividing north and southbound traffic according to Google Streetview. Google Maps places Plainfield about 134 miles northeast of Des Moines.
Police are still investigating.
