On or about Thursday, July 1st, 2021, around 4:15 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian left one person dead. Officials said the accident was reported along the southbound side of Interstate 59 in Jefferson County, Alabama.

Authorities from the area said 46-year-old Jeremy Kelley was killed when he was allegedly hit by a passing tractor-trailer as he was walking down or attempting to cross the southbound lanes of I-59. Emergency responders pronounced Kelley dead at the scene of the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles or injuries in their reporting on the accident.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 59 runs north and south through Jefferson County, with the scene of the accident about a mile south of downtown Birmingham.

Police are still investigating the accident.
