Jesse Haley Killed in Box Truck Accident on State Route 43 in Portage County

On or about Friday, October 9th, 2020, a collision between a car, a box truck, and a pickup truck left one man dead and another injured. The accident happened in the lanes of Route 43 near Ravenna in Portage County, Ohio.

Law enforcement spokespeople said that 20-year-old Jesse Haley was killed when the Honda Accord he was driving allegedly struck the back of a box truck that was parked to make a delivery in the right lane of northbound Route 43. After the initial collision with the box truck, the Accord spun into the northbound lanes where it struck a city operated Ford F250 pickup truck driven by an as-of-yet unidentified 45-year-old male.

Haley was pronounced dead after the accident. Deputies from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office indicated that this was the seventh road fatality of 2020.

A search of Google Maps shows that Route 43 is a two lane roadway that runs north and south, and that Portage County is roughly 25 miles northeast of Akron.

The investigation into the accident is still active and ongoing.
