Details:
On or about Thursday, February 17th, 2022, around 6:00 in the morning, a hit-and-run accident between a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian left one person dead. Officials from the FHP said the accident was reported along Highway 1 near the exchange with Peachtree Street in Cocoa, Florida.
Spokespeople from the Florida Highway Patrol said 61-year-old Jimmy Mayfield was killed when he was allegedly hit by a tractor-trailer as he was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the lanes of Highway 1. After the initial impact with Mayfield, the tractor-trailer fled the scene of the incident. Paramedics pronounced Mayfield dead of his injuries a short time after they responded to the incident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about 46 miles east of Orlando.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
