On or about Friday, May 20th, 2022, around 9:30 at night, an accident between a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian left a 41-year-old woman dead. Local law enforcement representatives said the accident was reported on Boca Chica Boulevard in Brownsville, Texas.
Officials from the area said 41-year-old Joanna Cardenas was killed when she was allegedly struck by a vehicle as she was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the lanes of traffic on Boca Chica Blvd. After the initial accident, the vehicle fled the scene. Emergency responders pronounced Cardenas dead of her injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the accident.
According to Google Maps, Boca Chica Boulevard cuts north and south into Brownsville.
Police are still looking for the driver and vehicle that fled the scene.
