On or about Saturday, August 7th, 2021, around 6:00 in the evening, a single-vehicle heavy-duty truck accident claimed the life of a 35-year-old College Station resident. Officials from the DPS said the accident was reported along Highway 36 just outside Caldwell in Burleson County, Texas.

Deputies from the Burleson County Sheriff’s Department said 35-year-old Joe Tennell was killed when the heavy-duty pickup truck allegedly skidded off the side of Highway 36 and slammed into a tree a short distance off the pavement. Emergency responders pronounced Tennell dead of his injuries a short time after they arrived at the scene of the incident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their preliminary report on the accident.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is situated a short distance south of Caldwell, which is about 83 miles east of downtown Austin.

Authorities are still examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
