On or about Monday, October 11th, 2021, an accident between a dump truck and a motorcycle claimed the life of a 39-year-old Greenville man. Deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along Route 571 in Van Buren Township, Ohio.
Officials said 39-year-old John Neargarder was killed when a dump truck allegedly struck his motorcycle while the truck was attempting a passing maneuver in the oncoming lanes. Paramedics pronounced Neargarder dead of his injuries at the scene of the collision. Police identified the driver of the dump truck as 55-year-old Gregory Friend, who was unhurt in the accident.
According to Google Maps, Route 571 cuts east and west through Van Buren Township, which is about 34 miles northwest of Dayton.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene of the accident.
