On or about Thursday, November 4th, 2021, around 8:40 in the morning, an accident between a pickup truck and a box truck claimed the life of a 79-year-old man from Valparaiso. Troopers from the ISP said the accident was reported at the intersection of State Road 8 and County Road 875 in LaPorte County, Indiana.

Deputies from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department said 79-year-old Joseph Barker was killed when the pickup truck he was driving allegedly failed to yield at the intersection of State Road 8 and County Road 875 when it struck a box truck. Paramedics pronounced Barker dead of his injuries at the scene of the collision. Paramedics airlifted the driver of the box truck to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.

According to Google Maps, LaPorte County is not far from the Illinois state line, about 64 miles southeast of downtown Chicago.
