Details:
On or about Sunday, November 28th, 2021, around 4:00 in the afternoon, a major chain-reaction accident between several tractor-trailers, a truck towing a car, and four passenger vehicles left one man dead and sent several other people to the hospital. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along the eastbound side of Interstate 10 just outside Van Horn in Culberson County, Texas.
Texas DPS spokespeople said 63-year-old Juan Lopez Martinez was killed and eight other people were injured when the tractor-trailer Martinez was driving allegedly slammed into a two other tractor-trailers, a truck towing a car, two passenger vehicles and an SUV as eastbound traffic was merging into one lane for a work zone. Paramedics pronounced Martinez dead a short time after the accident. Six people were taken by EMS to area hospitals with unknown injuries, while two others were treated at the scene.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 10 cuts east and west through Van Horn, which is roughly 120 miles southeast of El Paso.
