On or about Tuesday, January 11th, 2022, around 2:20 in the morning, a major single-vehicle car accident claimed the life of a 20-year-old man. Officials from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Highway 135 just outside Jacksonville in Cherokee County, Texas.

Officials from the Texas DPS said 20-year-old Juan A. Rios was killed when the vehicle he was driving allegedly veered off the side of Highway 135 and crashed into a pipe fence a short distance off the pavement. Emergency responders pronounced Rios dead of his injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the accident. Authorities did not mention any other vehicles in their report on the accident.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about a mile northeast of Jacksonville, which is about 113 miles southeast of downtown Dallas.

Authorities are still investigating the accident.
