On or about Monday, July 12th, 2021, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a man on a bicycle claimed the life of a 73-year-old man. Troopers from the DPS said the accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 42 and Barton Street in Kilgore, Texas.
Police from the area said 73-year-old Julian Rico was killed when he was hit by a tractor-trailer as he was riding his bike at or near the intersection of Highway 42 and Barton Street. Emergency responders pronounced Rico dead of his injuries a short time after the accident, but it is not immediately clear if he died at the scene or after being taken to the hospital. Authorities identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as 32-year-old Daniel Hatten, who was unhurt in the accident.
According to Google Maps, the intersection of Highway 42 and Barton Street is situated in the center of Kilgore, which is about 119 miles southeast of Dallas.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
