On or about Monday, April 6th, 2021, around 3:05 in the afternoon, an accident between a Ford Mustang and a tractor-trailer left a six-year-old child dead and sent two people to the hospital. Police said the accident was reported along the Highway 45 bypass just outside Nettleton in Monroe County, Mississippi.

Troopers from the MSP said a Ford Mustang driven by Jamonte Guinis was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer when the car pulled onto the roadway. Police identified a passenger in the vehicle as 6-year-old Jyrea Ivy, who was pronounced dead a short time after the accident. Paramedics transported Guinis and the driver of the truck to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries after the accident.

According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident on the Highway 45 bypass is a short distance from Nettleton in the northeast corner of the state, about 130 miles southeast of Memphis, Tennessee.

Police are still working to determine the cause of the accident.
