On or about Wednesday, January 20th, 2021, around 4:53 in the morning, an accident between a car and an 18-wheeler left a 20-year-old man dead. Police said the accident happened along State Route 251 just outside Mendota, Illinois.
Spokespeople from the Illinois State Police said 20-year-old Kaine Pizano-Olson was killed when his car allegedly crossed over the center line of Route 251 and struck a southbound tractor-trailer. Emergency response personnel pronounced Pizano-Olson dead at the scene of the accident. Authorities identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as Kyle Hall, who was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries after the accident.
According to Google Maps, Mendota is about 89 miles west of downtown Chicago.
Illinois State Police and local law enforcement are investigating the accident.
