On or about Saturday, January 15th, 2022, sometime in the hours after dark, a hit-and-run accident between a pedestrian and an alleged drunk driver left a 41-year-old woman dead. Deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported at the intersection of South Loop 256 and Old Elkhart Road in Palestine, Texas.
Law enforcement representatives said 41-year-old Kandy Sexton was killed when she was allegedly hit by a pickup truck as she was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the lanes of traffic at South Loop 256 and Old Elkhart Road. After the initial accident, the pickup truck fled the scene. Emergency responders pronounced Sexton dead of her injuries a short time after they responded to the scene.
Officials have since charged 30-year-old Colby Gholston with intoxication manslaughter in connection with the accident.
