On or about Tuesday, August 17th, 2021, around 5:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a car and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 40-year-old New York woman and sent three others to the hospital. Deputies from the Berks County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along the westbound side of Interstate 78 in Bethel Township, Pennsylvania.

Officers from the area said 40-year-old Kellyann Mooney was killed when the car she was in allegedly struck the back of a parked tractor-trailer on the westbound shoulder of Interstate 78. The driver of the car and two juvenile passengers were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries stemming from the accident. Police did not mention any other injuries stemming from the crash in their initial report.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 78 runs east and west just north of Bethel’s town center, which is about 66 miles northwest of Philadelphia.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.
