On or about Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021, around 7:40 in the evening, a major single-vehicle car accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old Carthage man. Spokespeople from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Farm-to-Market 839 in Rusk County, Texas
Texas DPS officials said 18-year-old Kiante Marquise Smith was killed when the car he was driving allegedly drove off the side of the road and rolled when it struck a dirt mound a short distance off the pavement. Smith was ejected frm the vehicle in the accident and was pronounced dead of his injuries a short time after emergency responders arrived at the scene. Officials did not mention other vehicles in their report on the crash.
According to Google Maps, Rusk County is about 142 miles southeast of downtown Dallas.
