On or about Wednesday, October 27th, 2021, around 11:30 in the morning, an accident between a garbage truck and an Amtrak train left two people injured. Troopers from the ISP said the accident was reported at a crossing along 160th Street in Avery, Iowa.

Investigators said a garbage truck driven by Kyle Redinger was eastbound on 160th Street when it was allegedly struck by an Amtrak train broadside. Redinger was thrown from the truck in the accident and was taken by helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries. Police identified the train conductor as Jennifer Harvey, who sustained minor injuries in the accident.

According to Google Maps, 160th Street runs east and west through Avery, which is roughly 70 miles southeast of Des Moines.

Officials are still investigating the accident.
