On or about Thursday, October 8th, 2020, around 7:00 in the morning, a cement truck accident with an SUV left one woman dead. The accident took place in the westbound lanes of Highway 140 in Adairsville, Georgia.
Officers indicated that 56-year-old Laura “Ginger” Thompson was killed when the GMC Yukon she was in was hit by a cement truck that allegedly turned into her path in the westbound lanes of Highway 140. Thompson died of her injuries a short time after the accident. The driver of the cement truck was identified as Jerry Potts, who did not report injury.
Thompson was a well-respected teacher at Cass Middle School in Bartow County.
Google Maps shows that Adairsville is located roughly 45 miles northwest of Marietta.
Police hope to release more information about the crash at a later date.
