On or about Monday, March 22nd, 2021, around 8:35 in the evening, an accident between a commercial truck and a pedestrian left a 55-year-old Oklahoma City man dead. Deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said the accident was reported in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 in Ozark, Arkansas.

Officials said 55-year-old Lavel Hammons was killed when he was struck by a Mack truck in the eastbound lanes of the interstate, near Exit 37. Authorities said Hammons may have been laying in the roadway at the time of the accident. Hammons died of his injuries at the scene of the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their report.

Interstate 40 runs east and west through Ozark, which is about 123 miles northwest of Little Rock, according to Google Maps.

Arkansas State Police are assisting in the investigation.
