On or about Wednesday, November 10th, 2021, around 2:15 in the afternoon, an accident between a school bus and a cyclist left an 85-year-old local man dead. Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported along State Street near the intersection with Coolidge Avenue in Saginaw Township, Michigan.

Authorities from the Michigan State Police said 85-year-old Laverne K. Cork was killed when he was allegedly hit by a school bus while he was riding his bike alongside or made an attempt to cross State Street near the intersection with Coolidge Avenue. Emergency responders pronounced Cork dead of his injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the accident. Officials did not mention any other injuries in their initial report on the accident.

According to Google Maps, the intersection of State Street and Coolidge Avenue is on the northwest side of Saginaw, which is about 105 miles northwest of downtown Detroit.

Authorities from the area are still investigating.
