On or about Thursday, May 20th, 2021, around 12:30 in the afternoon, an accident between a bus and a pedestrian left a 56-year-old woman dead. Authorities said the accident was reported at the bus station at 515 West Pettigrew Street in Durham, North Carolina.
Police said 56-year-old Lawanda Gail Rigsbee was killed when she was allegedly struck by a GoDurham bus that hopped the curb while pulling into Gate A at the bus station. Emergency responders rushed Rigsbee to a nearby hospital where she died of her injuries a short time after her arrival. Officials did not mention any other vehicles in their preliminary statement on the accident.
According to Google Maps, Durham Station is situated on the north side of the Durham area.
Police expect to release more information as soon as it becomes available.
