Details:
On or about Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021, around 6:15 in the morning, an accident between a commercial van and a tractor-trailer left a 56-year-old man dead and sent a 38-year-old man to the hospital. Troopers from the DPS said the accident was reported at the intersection of State Highway 86 and Farm-to-Market 1055 just outside Dimmitt in Castro County, Texas.
Texas Department of Public Safety representatives said 56-year-old Leon Gerardus Heijliger was killed when the commercial van he was driving was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer driven by 38-year-old Eliseo Rivera at the intersection of Highway 86 and Farm-to-Market 1055 when one of them may have failed to yield. Emergency responders pronounced Heijliger dead at the scene, while Rivera was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries stemming from the accident.
According to Google Maps, the intersection of FM 1055 and State Highway 86 is about 5 miles west of Dimmitt, which is about 80 miles north of Lubbock.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
