On or about Friday, July 2nd, 2021, around 9:42 at night, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian claimed the life of a 58-year-old Deming woman. Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Office said the accident was reported on the westbound side of Interstate 10 in Luna County, New Mexico.

New Mexico State Police said 58-year-old Lydia Gonzales was killed when she was allegedly hit by a tractor-trailer as she was walking alongside or attempting to cross the lanes of Interstate 10. Emergency responders pronounced Gonzales dead of her injuries a short time after the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their initial statement on the accident.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 10 runs east and west through the center of Luna County, which is about 233 south of Albuquerque.

Police are still examining the cause of the accident.
