On or about Tuesday, April 20th, 2021, around 10:45 at night, an accident between an SUV and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 54-year-old man. Police said the accident happened along U.S. Highway 24 just outside Jewell in Defiance County, Ohio.
Deputies from the County Sheriff’s Office said 54-year-old Lyle Smith was killed when his Jeep allegedly lost control and struck a parked tractor-trailer on the side of the highway. Smith was pronounced dead of his injuries at the scene after he was cut from the wreckage.
According to Google Maps, U.S. Highway 24 runs east and west just north of Jewell, which is 48 miles southwest of Toledo.
State and local law enforcement responded to the scene of the accident.
