On or about Thursday, June 17th, 2021, around 5:38 in the evening, an accident between a cyclist and a heavy-duty pickup claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman. Investigators from the DSP said the accident was reported along Shady Road at or near the intersection with Plantations Road in Lewes, Delaware.
Police said 19-year-old Madison “Maddie” Cunningham was killed when she was allegedly hit by a Ford F-250 pickup that was towing a trailer as she was riding her bike westbound on Shady Road. Paramedics rushed Cunningham to a nearby hospital where she died of her injuries the day after her arrival. The driver of the pickup truck towing a trailer was uninjured in the accident.
According to Google Maps, Shady Road runs east and west through Lewes, which is about 40 miles north of downtown Dover.
Delaware State Police assisted local law enforcement at the scene of the accident.
