On or about Tuesday, August 31st, 2021, around 6:45 in the morning, a hit-and-run accident between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 74-year-old man. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Highway 349 at FM 2051 in Dawson County, Texas.
Police from the area said 74-year-old Manuel Sandoval was killed when his pickup truck was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer that failed to yield at the intersection of Highway 349 and FM 2051. After the initial accident, the tractor-trailer fled the scene. Emergency responders pronounced Sandoval dead of his injuries a short time after the crash.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is situated about seven miles from Lamesa, which is about 61 miles south of Lubbock.
Police are still investigating the accident.
