According to preliminary information from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDoT), 2458 drunk driving crashes occurred on Texas highways in March 2021. This was 574 more crashes than in February 2021, a 30% increase.
March 2021 drunk driving crashes claimed 95 lives on Texas highways. A further 236 people sustained serious injuries in alcohol-related crashes. Additionally, 437 people suffered injuries that required hospitalization, while authorities believe that there were as many as 393 other injuries. In total, drunk driving crashes injured or killed 1,161 people in Texas during the month.
All statistics are preliminary. TxDoT will not release its final numbers until sometime in late 2022.
