On or about Wednesday, August 18th, 2021, around 3:19 in the afternoon, an accident between a minivan and a dump truck claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman and sent a child to the hospital. Authorities said the accident was reported at the intersection of East Robinson Avenue and Butterfield Coach Road in Springdale, Arkansas.

Deputies from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office said Maria Ayala was killed and her young passenger was injured when a dump truck allegedly struck the minivan they were in as they were attempting to turn at the intersection of Butterfield Coach Road and East Robinson Avenue. Ayala was rushed to Northwest Medical Center-Springdale where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after her arrival. Paramedics transported her 7-year-old passenger to Arkansas Children’s Northwest with unspecified injuries.

Police identified the driver of the dump truck as 59-year-old Michael Henry, who was unhurt in the accident.
