Details:
On or about Monday, October 11th, 2021, around 5:55 in the morning, an accident between a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 54-year-old woman. Deputies from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office said the accident was reported along the northbound side of Route 1 near the intersection with Bakers Basin Road in Lawrence, New Jersey.
Police said 54-year-old Maria Moreira was killed when she was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer as she was walking alongside or made an attempt to cross the northbound lanes of Route 1. The tractor-trailer that struck Moreira fled the scene following the accident. Paramedics pronounced Moreira dead of her injuries after the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their preliminary statement on the accident.
According to Google Maps, Route 1 cuts north and south through the eastern edge of Lawrence, which is about 64 miles southeast of Newark.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
