On or about Saturday, December 18th, 2021, around 3:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a woman and a young child. Spokespeople from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along the southbound side of Interstate 35 in Laredo, Texas.

Texas DPS Troopers said 27-year-old Maria Matiana Ramirez and 4-year-old Jeremiah Ramon were killed when the pickup truck they were in allegedly collided with the back of a parked tractor-trailer on the southbound shoulder of I-35. Emergency responders pronounced Ramirez and Ramon dead of their injuries a short time after the accident. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their preliminary statement on the accident.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 35 runs north and south into the center of Laredo, which sits on the Mexican border in south Texas.

Officials are still looking into the accident.
