On or about Friday, July 16th, 2021, around 12:19 in the afternoon, an accident between an SUV and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 36-year-old woman from Fort Hancock. Representatives from the DPS said the accident occurred at an unspecified intersection on the Interstate 10 Frontage Road just outside Sierra Blanca in Hudspeth County, Texas.
Police from the area said 36-year-old Maribel Aguirre was killed when her SUV was allegedly hit by a tractor-trailer driven by Ricardo Valdez that failed to yield while attempting a turn. Paramedics pronounced Aguirre dead of her injuries a short time after the accident. Authorities said Ricardo Valdez was unhurt in the accident.
According to Google Maps, the scene of the accident is about 3 miles west of the Sierra Blanca city limits, which is roughly 87 miles southeast of El Paso.
