Details:
On or about Tuesday, July 13th, 2021, around 5:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car left two people dead and sent a woman to the hospital. Officials from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported at the intersection of Highway 84 and Loop 430 near Littlefield, Texas.
Law enforcement representatives said 45-year-old Mario Amilcar Ortiz-Diaz and 2-year-old Scarlett Saporano were killed, while 21-year-old Karla Theresa Garcia Aguilar was hurt when the Honda Accord they were in was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer driven by 62-year-old Marvin Grothe. Police believe the car may have ran the stop at the intersection of Highway 84 and Loop 430. Paramedics pronounced Ortiz-Diaz and Saponaro dead a short time after the collision, while Aguilar was rushed to the hospital where she was last reported in critical condition. Grothe was unhurt in the incident.
According to Google Maps, the intersection of Highway 84 and Loop 430 is situated on the north side of Littlefield, which is about 36 miles northwest of Lubbock.
Deputies from the Lamb County Sheriff’s Office assisted Texas DPS at the scene of the accident.
