On or about Tuesday, August 31st, 2021, around 4:30 in the morning, an accident between a pedestrian and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 34-year-old man. Deputies from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department said the accident was reported in the 11400 block of Parkside Drive in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Troopers from the Tennessee State Police said 34-year-old Mark E. Phelan was killed when he was allegedly struck by a tractor-trailer as he was walking along or making an attempt to cross Parkside Drive near Turkey Cove Lane. Emergency responders pronounced Phelan dead of his injuries a short time after they arrived at the scene. Authorities identified the driver of the tractor-trailer as Eugene Glover Jr., who was unhurt in the accident.
According to Google Maps, Parkside Drive runs east and west, with the scene of the accident situated on the southeast side of Knoxville.
Police are still working to pin down the factors that may have played a role in the accident.
