On or about Wednesday, January 5th, 2022, around 3:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle claimed the life of a 76-year-old woman. Spokespeople from the MSP said the accident was reported along the eastbound side of Interstate 22 in Itawamba County, Mississippi.
Representatives from the Mississippi State Police said 76-year-old Marlene McRight was killed when a tractor-trailer allegedly struck the vehicle she was in on the eastbound side of I-22. Emergency responders pronounced McRight dead of her injuries after the accident, but it is not currently clear if she died at the scene or if she was taken to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after her arrival.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 22 cuts east and west through the center of Itawamba County, which is a short distance east of Tupelo.
Police are still looking into the cause of the accident.
