On or about Monday, December 6th, 2021, around 7:00 in the morning, a serious accident between a box truck and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 37-year-old Portage man. Troopers from the ISP said the accident was reported along the southbound side of Interstate 65 in Merrillville, Indiana.

Law enforcement spokespeople said 37-year-old Marques White was killed when the box truck he was driving allegedly collided with the back of a disabled tractor-trailer on the southbound side of I-65. Emergency responders pronounced White dead of his injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the collision. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured in the collision.

According to Google Maps, Interstate 65 runs north and south through the center of Merrillville, which is about 42 miles south of downtown Chicago, Illinois.

Officials are still investigating the collision.
