On or about Friday, August 27th, 2021, around 12:00 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and an SUV claimed the life of a 71-year-old Smithville woman. Law enforcement representatives said the accident was reported along the westbound side of Interstate 22 in Lee County, Missouri.
Police said 71-year-old Mary Gipson was killed when the SUV she was driving and a tractor-trailer collided under unspecified circumstances while driving down I-22. Paramedics pronounced Gipson dead of her injuries a short time after they responded to the scene of the incident. Police did not mention any other injuries stemming from the accident.
According to Google Maps, Interstate 22 runs east and west through Lee County, which is situated on the southeast side of Kansas City.
Police are still investigating.
