On or about Friday, October 29th, 2021, an accident between a pickup truck, an SUV and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 35-year-old Runaway Bay man and sent another driver to the hospital. Authorities from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported along Highway 281 in Archer County, Texas.

Troopers from the Texas DPS said 35-year-old Matthew Lange was killed when the SUV he was riding in allegedly crossed over the center line of Highway 281 and struck a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck in the oncoming lanes. Lange died of his injuries a short time after the collision. Emergency responders transported the driver of the pickup truck to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured in the accident.

According to Google Maps, Highway 281 runs north and south along the eastern edge of Archer County, which is situated about 148 miles northwest of downtown Dallas.

Police are still investigating.
