On or about Friday, September 17th, 2021, around 1:30 in the afternoon, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car left a 37-year-old woman dead. Law enforcement representatives from the area said the accident was reported along Highway 136 near the intersection with Excelsior Drive in Sauk County, Wisconsin.

Deputies from the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office said 37-year-old Melissa Heitke was killed when her car allegedly veered into the path of a dump truck driven by William Obermeier. After the initial collision, the dump truck rolled to one side. Paramedics airlifted Heitke to UW Hospital in Madison where she succumbed to her injuries a short time after her arrival.

According to Google Maps, Sauk County is about 45 miles northwest of downtown Madison.

Police are still working to pin down all the factors that may have contributed to the accident.
