On or about Wednesday, January 6th, 2021, around 3:00 in the morning, an accident between two tractor-trailers left one man dead and sent another to the hospital. Troopers from the Department of Public Safety said the accident happened on the northbound side of Interstate 45 near Madisonville in Madison County, Texas.
Authorities said 51-year-old Michael Appleton was killed when his tractor-trailer allegedly rear-ended another 18-wheeler in the northbound lanes. Paramedics pronounced Appleton dead of his injuries at the scene of the accident. The driver of the other tractor-trailer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Google Maps shows Interstate 45 is four lanes in the area, with a grassy median dividing north and southbound traffic. Madisonville is located about 96 miles north of Houston.
Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers and Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
