Michael Sprague Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Interstate 96 near Clarksville in Ionia County

On or about Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, sometime in the afternoon, an accident between a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 35-year-old Kalamazoo man. Spokespeople from the MSP said the accident was reported along the westbound side of Interstate 96 just outside Clarksville in Ionia County, Michigan.

Deputies from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Department said 35-year-old Michael Sprague was killed when the vehicle he was driving allegedly struck the back of a tractor-trailer on the shoulder of I-96. Sprague died of his injuries after the accident, but officials did not indicate if he died at the scene, or if he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time after his arrival.

According to Google Maps Interstate 96 cuts east and west just north of Clarksville, which is about 44 miles west of Lansing.

Police are still working to pin down all the factors that played a role in the accident.
