On or about Thursday, July 8th, 2021, around 8:35 in the morning, an accident between a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer claimed the life of a 36-year-old McCamey man. Officials from the Department of Public Safety said the accident happened along Highway 67 just outside Rankin in Upton County, Texas.
Law enforcement officials said 36-year-old Michael Zuninga was killed when the pickup truck he was in and a tractor-trailer collided head-on after one of them is believed to have veered over the center line of the roadway on Highway 67. Paramedics pronounced Zuniga dead of his injuries a short time after the collision. Police did not mention any other vehicles in their initial report on the crash.
According to Google Maps, Highway 67 runs east and west through the center of Upton County, which is about seven miles west of the Rankin city limits.
