Details:
On or about Saturday, January 1st, 2022, around 1:00 in the morning, a major two-vehicle accident with a suspected drunk driver left three people dead and sent four other individuals to the hospital. Officials from the Department of Public Safety said the accident was reported at the intersection of Barkers Branch Drive and Barkers Cypress Drive in Harris County, Texas.
Investigators said Minh Nguyen, Hoa Huynh, and Nancy Pham were killed, while Quan Nguyen, Dung Lam, and Minh Le were injured when the minivan they were in allegedly failed to yield at the intersection of Barkers Cypress Road and Barkers Branch Drive when it collided with a Toyota Rav4 driven by Jennifer Velasquez. Minh Nguyen, Hoa Huynh, and Nancy Pham were pronounced dead of their injuries a short time after the accident. Paramedics transported Quan Nguyen, Dung Lam, and Minh Le and Jennifer Velasquez to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Authorities noted Velasquez exhibited signs of intoxication, but did not elaborate further.
According to Google Maps, the intersection of Barkers Cypress Road and Barkers Branch Drive is on the northwest side of Houston.
Multiple agencies are assisting in the accident investigation.
