On or about Monday, December 28th, 2020, around 12:16 in the morning, an accident between a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian left one man dead. Deputies from the Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened on the northbound side of Highway 287 near Bentley Road in Vernon, Texas.

Authorities said Mitchell Lee Foster was killed when he was allegedly hit by an 18-wheeler while he was walking southbound in the northbound lanes of traffic. Officers said Foster was struck on the overpass spanning Bentley Road. Emergency responders pronounced Foster dead of his injuries a short time after they arrived at the scene.

According to Google Streetview, Highway 287 is four lanes in the area, with two distinct bridges for north and southbound traffic spanning Bentley Road. Vernon is located about 163 miles northwest of the Dallas/Fort Worth Area.

Officials are still investigating.
